Florida International University (FIU) is conducting a series of D&D Tech Talks focusing on D&D topics relevant to the DOE EM Complex. On April 16th, 2024, FIU collaborated with Los Alamos National Laboratory to feature a Tech Talk from Bryan Steinfeld titled “Development and Deployment of a ground robotic platform for radiation Radiological Contamination Detection”.
Talk Description
The integrated Ground-Based Agent for Radiological Tracking (iGART) is a robotic platform originally developed to perform illicit source interdiction by DHS. Combining a wide variety of robotic sensing systems and radiation detectors, this system uses on board radiation detectors to remotely identify radiation sources and locations in contaminated environments. In partnership with Los Alamos National Laboratory and the DOE Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office, the iGART system is being deployed in assistance of the active remediation at the E-F Firing Site located at Technical Area 15 at LANL.
