Flash Lamp for Concrete Decontamination

The light ablation technique uses the absorption of light energy and its conversion to heat to achieve the selective removal of surface coatings or contaminants. Surface coatings such as epoxy paints, adhesives, corrosion products, accumulated airborne pollutants and up to 6 mm thick layers of concrete can be removed using this technique. Laser and xenon flashlight sources for this application are commercially available and a pinch plasma lamp is under development. " Large Area Dry Decontamination Technology "

Benefits

•Production of secondary waste is reduced due to this being a dry process •The laser beam can be transmitted through an optical fiber, so the process can be operated remotely

Limitations

•It is only applicable for surface decontamination
